As the communities around it have grown, so too has MedStar Montgomery Medical Center. This 149-bed facility, founded by Dr. Jacob Wheeler Bird, was Montgomery County's first acute-care hospital. After 90 years, MedStar Montgomery Medical Center remains true to its roots offering sophisticated, high-quality treatment tempered with personal, individualized care. The hospital's Olney location, in Northeastern Montgomery County, allows it also to treat patients from several surrounding counties, notably Frederick, Howard and Carroll.

With dozens of programs and a large array of services, MedStar Montgomery Medical Center treats and cares for patients of all ages, newborns through seniors. The hospital handles most medical emergencies. Its Chest Pain Center allows cardiologists to quickly and effectively screen and treat potential cardiac patients and refer them for further treatment through the hospital's Cardiac and Vascular Laboratory. Also, MedStar Montgomery Medical Center is accredited as a primary stroke center by The Joint Commission.
A separate pediatric center offers 24 hours, 7 days a week care - both emergency and inpatient - for infants through teenagers. Board-certified pediatric hospitalists are available around the clock offering young patients access to a variety of specialized care throughout the hospital.
The hospital's maternal newborn center offers modern private rooms that include ceramic tile baths and flat screen televisions. MedStar Montgomery Medical Center is the only hospital in the area with a dedicated obstetrics hospitalist program to provide experienced in-house obstetricians around-the-clock care until a patient's own obstetrician arrives.
Other specialized medical care is offered through the hospital's cancer center, joint replacement center, diabetes and nutrition center, and addiction and mental health center. Additionally, MedStar Montgomery Medical Center offers an array of medical and surgical acute care services as well as home health and private duty nursing.
Medical Montgomery Medical Center has embarked on a $30 million expansion that has led to the opening of a newly renovated emergency department, a new outpatient services area and other renovations that will convert almost the entire hospital to private rooms.
