Columbia, MD, July 26,2010 – For the sixth time, MedStar Health has been recognized as one of the nation’s Most Wired Health Systems, as determined by the Hospitals & Health Networks’ annual survey. Since 1999, Hospitals & Health Networks has conducted a survey of the nation’s hospitals on how they use information technology to achieve strategic and operational goals, such as quality and safety measures. This year’s survey was redesigned to increase the data’s reliability and improve the usefulness of the results for benchmarking. Hospitals were rated on IT adoption, implementation and use in four focus areas: Infrastructure; Business and Administrative Management, Clinical Quality and Safety; and Care Continuum. Ninety-nine hospitals and health networks were recognized this year. “This recognition demonstrates that our IT strategy keeps us competitive with the best in the nation and, more importantly, is helping us improve patient care across Maryland and the Washington, D.C., region,” explains Catherine Szenczy, senior vice president and chief information officer. “Receiving this award is an honor, especially in light of the new more rigorous process.” “Being named one of the nation’s Most Wired Health Systems shows the tremendous work that is already being done by the Information Services Division and affirms our commitment in leveraging technology to enhance overall patient care delivery,” notes Kenneth A. Samet, FACHE, president and chief executive officer. For more information and for the complete list of 2010 Most Wired Hospitals and Health Systems, visit: http://www.hhnmostwired.com.
