About me

As a dual-trained physician with sub-specialty fellowships in Vascular Neurology and Neuro Interventional Radiology, Dr. Stemer offers patients with cerebrovascular disease complete continuity of care from the emergency room to the angiography suite, through the Neuro Intensive Care Unit, and follow-up clinic appointments. He treats patients of all ages, from pediatric to the elderly, at both MedStar Georgetown where he serves as Director of Stroke Neurology and at MedStar Washington Hospital Center.

Dr. Stemer graduated from Rush Medical School in Chicago, IL and also served his internship and residency at Rush University Medical Center followed by a fellowships in Vascular Neurology at University of California San Diego Medical Center and Endovascular Surgical Neuroradiology at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC.

Currently an Assistant Professor of Neurology and an Assistant Professor of Radiology at MedStar Georgetown, Dr. Stemer has won recognition and awards for his teaching. An active researcher, he is also widely published and a frequent lecturer.

Philosophy of Care
My goal is to practice medicine in a compassionate manner, tailored to each patient's specific circumstances. My commitment is to provide the highest level of evidence-based clinical care to cerebrovascular patients including opportunities to participate in ongoing research studies. And, as a physician at a tertiary care academic center, I actively participate in the education and training we offer to medical students, residents and fellows.
