About me
Dr. Reginald L. Robinson, MD, is a board certified cardiologist at Medstar Washington Hospital Center and the Bowie, Maryland office of Medstar. Dr. Robinson also serves on the board of Medstar Cardiology Associates, and is part of the Quality Committee, interviewing committee, physician lead for the Irving street vascular lab and facility medical director there for the practice. In addition, he holds a position on the Greater Washington region board of the American Heart Association, where he was previously president. He is the current board president of the Eastern States Board of the American Heart Association which covers 30 local boards from Virgina to Maine including West Virginia. His expertise is in general clinical cardiology, treating heart arrhythmia, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, congestive heart failure, and other diseases of the heart.
Performing a range of diagnostic procedures, Dr. Robinson informs his treatment recommendations through imaging studies, such as vascular ultrasound, as well as all forms of stress testing. His treatment approach is holistic, employing lifestyle changes as well as traditional cardiology. He sees medications as a supplement to healthy lifestyle changes. His clinical interests include clinical cardiology as it relates to taking care of the patient.
Dr. Robinson received the 2020 Eastern States Volunteer Health Equity Award from the Greater Washington Chapter of the American Heart Association.
Dr. Robinson received his medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine. He then completed his residency in internal medicine and his fellowship in cardiology at Temple University Hospital, where he was named Chief Cardiology Fellow in the last year of the fellowship. Dr. Robinson is a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI), a certification awarded to cardiologists who meet the highest standards in vascular interpretation ultrasound.
Philosophy of care
“I look at the entire vascular tree — the arteries, capillaries, and veins that carry blood to each part of the body — and try to synthesize and link them together. I examine how the patient’s diseases interact and how they put the patient at risk for other diseases and related cardiac events.
“I believe in a lifestyle focused treatment approach, because about 80% of the conditions I see can be modified by lifestyle. I talk with my patients about how diet, exercise, and activity influence their health.”
