Michael C. Sachtleben

Michael C. Sachtleben is senior vice president and chief operating officer, Washington Region, for MedStar Health. In this role, Sachtleben serves as strategic market lead for the Washington Region, coordinating execution of MedStar Health strategic objectives while supporting day-to-day operations to deliver patient care across the region’s six hospitals and Rehabilitation services systemwide. Sachtleben continues to serve as president for MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.

Previously, Sachtleben served as MedStar Georgetown’s chief operating officer and executive director of MedStar Georgetown Physicians Group. Prior to joining the MedStar Georgetown leadership team in 2002, Sachtleben led Washington Operations for MedStar Physician Partners, where he oversaw a network of community-based physician practices.

Sachtleben earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland at College Park and a Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Gillings School of Global Public Health. He also holds a certificate in leadership from Georgetown University Center for Professional Development and is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and Leadership Greater Washington.

Sachtleben currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington and previously served on the board of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of the National Capital Region. Sachtleben has served on the American Hospital Association Regional Policy Board and in 2019 received the American Hospital Association Grassroots Champion award. Sachtleben has also been cited by Becker’s Hospital Review as “100 academic medical center CEOs to know” in 2019 and 2020.
