Visitor information

  • Patient and Visitor Code of Conduct

MedStar Health is committed to providing high-quality care to our patients and communities in a safe and respectful environment that supports health and healing. To ensure our hospitals and care locations are safe, caring, and inclusive, we ask that our patients and visitors adhere to our Patient and Visitor Code of Conduct detailed here.

If our Code of Conduct guidelines are not followed, patients may be asked to leave and make other plans for their non-emergency care. Visitors may be asked to leave and could be restricted from future visitation.

Every day, our providers, nurses, and associates are committed to providing the highest levels of care to our patients. Please show them the respect they deserve and that you expect as a patient or visitor. Thank you for joining us in our commitment to ensuring a safe, caring, and inclusive environment for us all.

  • Security/Check-in

MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital welcomes family members and friends who wish to visit during your stay with us. The emotional support visitors provide can be beneficial in the rehabilitation process. However, the following policies have been designed to ensure the comfort and well-being of all patients.

    • Visiting hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., daily. Visiting times may be adjusted by the clinical staff according to individual patient care units and unique patient needs.

    • All visitors must register and receive a visitor badge at the front desk in the lobby. The badge must be visible at all times while in the hospital.

    • It is encouraged that no more than two (2) visitors are present at one time at the bedside. When there are more than 2 visitors, common areas (atrium, dining room, therapeutic garden) or conference rooms may be used, provided there is no interruption to patient care.

    • Children are welcome visitors. Those younger than 12 must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times. Special arrangements are required for children to visit the Brain Injury unit. MedStar NRH discourages infant visitors.

    • Family members are encouraged to participate in the patient’s therapy sessions, as long as they do not interfere. Please ask if you can participate, and if not, then please schedule your visitation around the patient’s therapy schedule.

    • Based on the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and Infection Prevention Guidelines, visitor restrictions may be implemented to support the safety for patients and associates.

    • Visitors may not take a patient off the unit without first checking in with the care team and securing permission.

    • We will not deny visitation privileges based on race, religion, ethnicity, language, culture, size, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, socioeconomic status, or physical or mental ability or disability. Patients will be informed of these rights before admission to the hospital.

  • Masking Policy

Face masks are optional for patients and visitors who are not displaying symptoms of COVID-19 or other viruses (cough, runny nose, sneezing, etc). However, masks may be required in certain areas/rooms in the hospital.

A medical provider or patient may request that masks be worn in a patient’s room or treatment area. These requests should be respected and honored.

Face masks are available onsite for patients and visitors.

  • Tobacco Free Policy

As part of our vision to be the trusted leader in caring for people and advancing health, all MedStar Health facilities are tobacco-free. Smoking and the use of any tobacco products in or around our facilities is strictly prohibited. We appreciate your consideration and cooperation.
