Abigail Davenport, MD MS FACOG is a board-certified Ob/Gyn specializing in Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery as part of the National Center for Advanced Pelvic Surgery (NCAPS). NCAPS is a group of world-renowned gynecologic surgeons focusing in Urogynecology and Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery. Dr. Davenport is additionally faculty for the Georgetown University School of Medicine.
Dr. Davenport obtained a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Science from the University of Florida before attending medical school at Florida Atlantic University. From there, she traveled to Cleveland, OH where she completed her residency training in general Ob/Gyn at MetroHealth/Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Davenport then underwent fellowship training in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at MedStar Washington Hospital Center/Georgetown University. She is very excited to have stayed on as part of the MedStar family!
Dr. Davenport feels that a person-centered approach is the most vital part of delivering effective healthcare and aims to establish a partnership with her patients. Her clinical focus primarily surrounds the treatment of pelvic floor disorders and she offers a variety of treatment options ranging from conservative management with physical therapy and medication to advanced pelvic surgeries. She has a particular interest in the surgical management of pelvic organ prolapse. However, Dr. Davenport offers a variety of services including the treatment of urinary and fecal incontinence, menopausal symptoms, vaginal dryness, pelvic organ prolapse, painful bladder, fistula, and birth trauma amongst many others.
Outside of her clinical duties, Dr. Davenport is actively involved in resident and fellow education and research. She regularly participates in lectures, runs simulations, and serves as a mentor for medical trainees from Georgetown University. She received three Outstanding Teacher Awards as a resident and received the distinction of Fellow of the Year in 2023 due to her commitment as a medical and surgical educator.
Dr. Davenport strongly believes in practicing evidence-based medicine and is actively involved in ongoing research in women’s health. Her research primarily centers around the patient experience and has been published in multiple journals including Obstetrics & Gynecology, Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology, American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Urogynecology, and Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. She’s won numerous research awards including Best Clinical Surgical Abstract at the combined American Urogynecologic Society (AUGS)/International Urogynecological Association Meeting in 2023, AUGS Award for Excellence in Urogynecology in 2020, Society for Gynecologic Surgeons Award for Resident Research in 2019, and the AUGS Resident Scholars Award in 2018.
