About me
Jonathan R. Gower, MD, FACS, is a highly experienced cardiothoracic surgeon at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. He specializes in advanced heart failure, transplantation, and adult cardiac surgeries. His clinical interests include mechanical circulatory support, and advanced heart failure therapies.
Dr. Gower’s approach is based on open and transparent patient communication and education. He prepares patients for their procedures by thoroughly discussing potential risks and outcomes, ensuring they understand what to expect and can make informed decisions.
He performs the entire gamut of adult cardiac surgeries, including heart transplants, valve replacements, and coronary artery bypasses.
Despite working long hours in a demanding field, Dr. Gower is a dedicated husband and father who loves spending time with his wife and two children.
“I always tell my resident and students that a good surgeon needs to be affable, available, and able. My goal is to provide excellent care by having a calm and reassuring bedside manner, taking the time to communicate directly and openly with my patients and their loved ones, and exploring the best treatment options for patients, whether it is surgery, medication, or another therapy.”
