About me
Michael Eric Summerfield, MD, is an ophthalmologist at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. He serves as an associate professor at Georgetown University Medical School. Dr. Summerfield has always wanted to be a doctor because he appreciates interacting with people. He focuses on building meaningful, long-term personal relationships with his patients.
Dr. Summerfield enjoys the instantaneous "wow" factor his patients experience after surgery. He prides himself on delivering good results. Dr. Summerfield treats patients of all ages like a family member. Dr. Summerfield always strives to help his patients reach their best vision possible.
As a teacher, Dr. Summerfield explains the fundamentals and breaks down each step of every procedure to his students. He knows that this teaching experience also keeps his surgical expertise up to date.
Dr. Summerfield's clinical interests include: cataracts, glaucoma surgery, cornea surgery, refractive surgery, LASIK, eye trauma, eye emergencies and macular degeneration.
Outside of work, Dr. Summerfield enjoys spending time with his two daughters and son.
