Certifications

MedStar Health SiTEL offers American Heart Association (AHA) life support training that prepares learners to respond to critical medical situations. Upon successful completion of these courses, participants receive life support certification and satisfy requirements for licensing and practice in their respective areas.

American Heart Association Emergency Cardiovascular Care courses

As an authorized American Heart Association (AHA) training center, MedStar Health SiTEL supports the mission of the American Heart Association Emergency Cardiovascular Care program to reduce disability and death from acute circulatory and respiratory emergencies, including stroke, by improving the chain of survival in every community and healthcare system. For healthcare providers, we offer a number of courses in emergency cardiovascular care, including Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support courses.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

This course trains healthcare professionals to recognize life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver ventilations, and provide early use of an AED.

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

This course builds on the foundation of BLS training and is designed for healthcare professionals who direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies and for personnel in emergency response.

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

This course is for healthcare providers who respond to emergencies in infants and children and for personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care, and critical care units.

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

This course focuses on care of the newborn at birth and facilitates effective team-based care for healthcare professionals who care for newborns at the time of delivery.

MedStar Health SiTEL also offers courses for individuals in the community who do not have medical training but wish to be prepared for an emergency in any setting. These courses teach participants how to perform basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation, use an automatic external defibrillator (AED), and provide care until emergency personnel arrive. Upon successful completion of the course, learners receive a completion card which can be used for employment, regulatory, or other requirements.

Community courses include the Heartsaver® First Aid, CPR, AED, and bloodborne pathogens training, as well as hands-only CPR and opioid education.

Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS)

Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) is rapidly becoming a core clinical skill, enabling providers to perform targeted diagnostic imaging at the bedside to support faster, safer decision-making. As an extension of the physical exam, POCUS supports more immediate and informed clinical decision-making, reduces unnecessary imaging and transfers, and enhances patient safety across care settings. Its growing use across a wide range of specialties makes it one of the most in-demand skillsets in modern health care.

MedStar Health SiTEL offers introductory POCUS training for MedStar Health and non-MedStar Health clinicians, with content tailored for physicians, advanced practice providers, residents, and nurses.

Courses are simulation-based and emphasize both image acquisition and interpretation through hands-on practice using live models and high-fidelity simulators. Learners gain structured experience with cardiac, pulmonary, gastrointestinal, urinary, and vascular applications in a safe, supportive environment designed to build clinical confidence.  Training is offered in both 2-day and 3-day formats, provides continuing education (CE) credit, and is approved by the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) and the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST)
