Serving our communities is at the heart of what we do, each and every day. At MedStar Health, we use the best of our minds and the best of our hearts to serve our patients across our 10 hospitals, ambulatory, and urgent care locations, and through telehealth and home care services.

As a healthcare leader in the region, we play an important and significant role in advancing health and partnering with others to facilitate community health improvement. Through a comprehensive approach to health and wellness, we strive to enhance health outcomes through better care that emphasizes prevention, builds awareness and fosters independence—especially in underserved communities adversely impacted by disease, health disparities, and socioeconomic barriers to optimal health. Community education and partnerships remain critical to achieving this goal.

Community health advocates

This team includes trusted members of their communities who are trained to serve as public health workers to help their neighbors address non-medical challenges that interfere with overall health. They help people learn to manage and prevent illnesses, navigate the healthcare system, and connect with social support and assistance programs available to them.

Peer recovery coaches

Our coaches provide emotional support for patients who have sought treatment for alcohol or drug problems, to help them move toward recovery. Most of our coaches have personal experience with substance use and can help connect patients to treatment programs, support groups, and more.
