About the Provider

Brenda Baffour, CNM, MS, WHNP-BC, is a faculty midwife in the department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Prior to joining the Hospital Center, Ms. Baffour worked as a registered nurse on the labor and delivery unit at Stamford Hospital in Connecticut. Ms. Baffour has also worked as an undergraduate clinical instructor at Chamberlain College of Nursing in Arlington, Virginia.

Training, Education and Research

Ms. Baffour received her bachelor's degree in public health from Temple University in 2006 and a bachelor's degree in nursing from Binghamton University in 2008. Ms. Baffour completed her graduate education in midwifery and women's health nurse practitioner at Georgetown University in 2011, and received her national midwifery certification from the American College of Nurse-Midwives and women's health nurse practitioner certification from the National Certification Corporation in 2012.

Ms. Baffour's research interests include teen pregnancy, maternal and child health disparities, family planning, and health education and promotion for underserved populations.

Society Memberships

Ms. Baffour is a member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives, the Honor Society of Nursing - Sigma Theta Tau International and the D.C. Chapter of the American College of Nurse-Midwives.

Practice Focus

Ms. Baffour's goal in practice is to provide women and their families with the resources and education they need to be highly involved with their care, make informed decisions, and experience the most positive health outcomes.

Ms. Baffour lives in Washington, D.C. In her spare time she enjoys traveling, cooking and spending time with friends and family.
