About the Provider

Dr. Amanda Lakusta graduated summa cum laude from the University of South Dakota for her undergraduate degree and the Sanford School of Medicine for her medical doctorate. She moved to Boston after medical school for her internship at a hospital affiliated with Harvard Medical School. Dr. Lakusta then moved to Portland, Oregon to complete her ophthalmology residency at the Casey Eye Institute, one of the nation's top ten eye institutes.
After completing her residency, Dr. Lakusta practiced ophthalmology in the U.S. Air Force. During her active duty service obligation, she was first stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas where she taught Air Force and Army residents how to perform cataract surgery. While stationed in San Antonio, she served two deployments one to Haiti and the other to Afghanistan. In Afghanistan, she served as the sole ophthalmologist in theater and was responsible for the surgical eye care of all U.S. and NATO forces, as well as the local nationals and Afghan National Army forces whom were injured. When she returned from Afghanistan, she was relocated to Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Virginia as the chief of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Lakusta separated from the Air Force in December of 2013 to pursue a career in private practice. She is board certified in ophthalmology, and specializes in cataract and eyelid surgery, medical disease of the eye, and restorative/cosmetic procedures including neurotoxins (i.e. Botox), fillers, and blepharoplasty.
Dr. Lakusta was raised by a Swiss mother and an American father, and she is fluent in German. Dr. Lakusta resides in California, Maryland in Saint Mary's County with her husband, and their daughter and their dog. She enjoys sailing, walking on the beach, hiking, and traveling to Switzerland to visit her family.
