Philosophy of Care

It is a privilege for me to treat each patient that comes to me for cancer care. I know that these patients put their trust and confidence in my expertise and in Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center's reputation. Cancer is a devastating disease, but cancer does not define an individual. I try to learn about my patients first as people. My goal for treatment is to give each patient the chance to live his or her life as fully as possible. I encourage each of them to not let the disease rule their lives during or after treatment. My job is to engage patients in decisions about their cancer treatment to help empower and encourage them as active participants. I am a trained facilitator in mind/body medicine, in addition to my research focus. My holistic and individualized approach to cancer treatment helps my patients feel more in control during what is almost always an overwhelming experience. It helps them see their strengths. My team and I use cutting-edge cancer treatments including clinical trial treatments when appropriate, which are available for lung and brain cancers.
