Ian T. Greenwalt, MD, is a caring and diligent breast surgeon practicing in the MedStar Breast Health Program at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. A graduate of Boston College, Dr. Greenwalt received his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine. He completed his general surgery residency at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center/Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Greenwalt then completed a fellowship in breast oncologic surgery at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital.
Dr. Greenwalt specializes in management of both malignant and benign breast disease. Through the combination of minimally invasive surgical techniques and advanced oncoplastic skills, he strives to provide his patients with high-quality, comprehensive, multidisciplinary care.
Dr. Greenwalt has published several papers and book chapters focusing on safety and efficacy of outpatient mastectomy with reconstruction, disparities in breast cancer care and the development of personalized breast cancer care. His research interests center on improving post-operative pain management through multi-modality pain control and employing nerve-sparing operative techniques.
Additionally, Dr. Greenwalt is a passionate teacher, committed to educating medical students, residents and fellows as well as helping his patients understand their disease processes in order to make thoughtful, informed decisions in their care. He is an active member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, and the Society of Surgical Oncology.
