Laura Malmut, MD, is an Attending Physiatrist at MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital and Instructor of Clinical Rehabilitation Medicine at Georgetown University. She graduated from medical school at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. She completed her internship in internal medicine at Albert Einstein Jacobi Medical Center and her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Northwestern University/Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, formerly known as the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.
During her training, Dr. Malmut completed a two-year Medical Education Certificate Program through Northwestern University. She received the Almost FAME-ous Award and the Helen Cooper Outstanding Resident Teacher Award for her numerous contributions to medical education. Dr. Malmut has served as an investigator for a number of research projects. She was granted the Sarah Baskin Award for Excellence in Research for her research on outcomes after acute stroke. Her current practices include general rehabilitation, neurorehabilitation, and academic medicine.
Dr. Malmut provides comprehensive rehabilitative services for patients with a wide array of disabling illnesses and injury. She works closely with the entire rehabilitation team to conduct a comprehensive assessment of patients and to develop a treatment plan that promotes the fullest possible recovery and to help patients meet their therapy goals.
