Marian Wulf-Gutierrez, MD, is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology. Her specialty combines her curiosity for science, her desire to care for people, and her desire to empower women to take control of their lives.
Dr. Wulf-Gutierrez focuses on preventive care and wellness, recognizing that decisions women make about their health affect their entire family. When medical treatment is necessary, she provides her patients with all available options and guides them and their families in making their health care decisions. She stopped performing elective gynecologic surgery in 2016 when she became Associate Dean for Clinical Education for Georgetown University School of Medicine.
A northern Virginia native, Dr. Wulf-Gutierrez did her residency at the University of Michigan. She and her husband, Guillermo Gutierrez, MD, PhD, then moved to Houston. Dr Wulf-Gutierrez practiced and taught at the University of Texas in Houston for 18 years before returning to the area in 2001 to be closer to family. Before coming to MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in 2005, she served as the director of the Inova Fairfax Obstetrics Clinic, working as part of the team that delivered nearly 3000 babies per year. Delivering babies continues to be the most satisfying part of her job.
Dr. Wulf-Gutierrez is also Professor and Associate Dean at Georgetown University Medical Center. Her work with medical students allows her to teach MedStar Georgetown's philosophy of "cura personalis," or caring for the whole person, to the next generation of doctors, as well as contribute to the growth and development of her specialty. In addition to numerous teaching awards, Dr. Wulf-Gutierrez received the Washingtonian Best Doctor Award in 2014.
A marathon runner and triathlete in her younger years, Dr. Gutierrez now enjoys spending time gardening and cooking with her husband, and with her four children and five grandchildren.
