About the Provider

Momina Mastoor, MD, is an active member of MedStar's Structural Heart Disease program, the Director of the Echocardiography Laboratory, and runs the Structural Heart Clinic at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore. She is board certified in cardiovascular disease and echocardiography.

Dr. Mastoor’s focus is on echocardiography and transesophageal echocardiography (TEE),  including interventional echocardiography, a technology that allows physicians and interventional cardiologists to diagnose and treat structural heart disease. This includes conditions like mitral regurgitation, mitral stenosis, aortic stenosis, atrial septal defect, and patent foramen ovale (PFO, or hole in the heart). She also provides TEE guidance during WATCHMAN device placement procedures and percutaneous closure procedures for patients with PFO and atrial septal defect (ASD).

Dr. Mastoor's passion is preventive cardiology: detecting and preventing progression of disease. Her personal struggle overcoming obesity has given her empathy as well as resolve in counseling patients in lifestyle changes to beat heart disease. She also shares her story of overcoming hydrophobia (fear of water) and becoming an avid swimmer to challenge patients to get more exercise.

Dr. Mastoor received her medical degree from Aga Khan University. She then joined MedStar Union Memorial Hospital to complete a three-year internal medicine residency program, and finally, a cardiology fellowship at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. She has been named a Top Doctor in Baltimore Magazine for Cardiology in 2015, 2016, and 2017.

Philosophy of Care

“The philosophy of care that I apply to each and every patient is to treat others like I want to be treated. I love what I do and I’m truly committed to my patients. The more I practice and the more experience I gain, I find that by bringing my own perspective to the decision making process, I’m able to picture a treatment plan that fits the needs of each patient.

“I’m happy to help referring physicians with patients who have been diagnosed with different valvular heart conditions and to offer state-of-the-art strategies which do not involve open heart surgery, but that can be performed percutaneously.”
