About the Provider

Board certified in both neurophysiology and neurology, Dr. Minahan currently serves as co-director of Intraoperative Monitoring at MedStar Georgetown where he is also a clinical professor in the Department of Neurology. His special areas of interest include intraoperative neuromonitoring, electromyography, and neuromuscular disease.
With nearly twenty years of clinical experience, Dr. Minahan specializes in neuromonitoring, a real-time focus on patients undergoing surgery for a range conditions including spinal and lumbar disease, brain tumors, cerebral aneurysms, and carotid stenosis. Dr. Minahan works in the operating room watching for potential nervous system injury during surgery and offers ongoing communication to the surgeon and anesthesiologist to prevent permanent damage to the brain, spine and peripheral nerves.
Well-known in his subspecialty, Dr. Minahan is an active member of multiple professional societies, serving in several leadership positions. He is widely published in peer-reviewed clinical journals and has authored numerous book chapters. Dr. Minahan was trained as a resident and fellow at Johns Hopkins University following internships at Duke University Medical Center after earning his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine.
