Serban Dragoi, MD, specializes in nephrology and is the director of MedStar Georgetown University Hospital Home Dialysis Program. He is board certified in nephrology, internal medicine and hypertension. Dr. Dragoi's special clinical interests include kidney stones, home hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and management of hypertension.
As a nephrologist, Dr. Dragoi goes beyond simply treating kidney stones. He focuses his efforts on determining the underlying cause and how to prevent them in the future. Many patients are referred to him for recurring kidney stones. He combines medical treatment with patient education for the most effective resolution.
In his role as director of MedStar Georgetown's Home Dialysis Program, Dr. Dragoi helps patients with renal (kidney) failure determine their best option for kidney dialysis. Hemodialysis in the home is now possible, offering patients more freedom and comfort while on dialysis.
Dr. Dragoi also sees health benefits for patients on home hemodialysis, including better blood pressure control and a reduction in the risk of cardiovascular disease. Peritoneal dialysis is another option for patients that can be performed at home after training.
Dr. Dragoi is active in training other physicians and health professionals about home dialysis.
