Guy Weigold, MD, is director of the cardiac CT program at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. Under his directorship, MedStar Washington Hospital Center initiated one of the first cardiac CT programs in the Washington, D.C. area. Dr. Weigold has served as principal investigator for national multi-center trials of cardiovascular CT and has been teaching and publishing in cardiac CT since 2003. He is currently treasurer of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT), co-director of the SCCT's Annual Cardiovascular CT Board Review Course, and has years of experience leading training courses for the SCCT and the American College of Cardiology, among other organizations.
His clinical interests include prevention of heart disease and the development of new paradigms of coronary atherosclerosis disease detection and pharmacotherapy. His research interests include using novel combinations of imaging, biomarkers, and genetics to improve the prediction of heart disease; new drug development for the treatment of coronary atherosclerosis; and new technical advancements in cardiovascular CT scanner hardware and software.
Dr. Weigold received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota and completed his residency in internal medicine at Northwestern University. He then completed a cardiology fellowship at MedStar Washington Hospital Center and received advanced training in Cardiac CT at the Cleveland Clinic and the University of Maryland. He is board-certified in dardiovascular disease and cardiovascular CT, and is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Society of Cardiovascular CT.
