William (Rusty) Phillips Jr., MD, is a board-certified internist with MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. Dr. Phillips is a hospitalist, specializing in caring for adult patients in the hospital.
Active in promoting health justice and equal access to care during college, Dr. Phillips saw medical school and a medical career as a good way to make an impact. Because MedStar Georgetown is part of a community-based system focused on providing equal access to comprehensive, leading-edge care, Dr. Phillips sees the hospital as a good fit for his philosophy of care.
As an internist, Dr. Phillips considers all aspects of his patients' health to understand their medical problem and recommend treatment options. As a hospitalist, Dr. Phillips oversees patients' care during their hospital stay, coordinating communication and care with other physicians and medical staff.
In 2011, Dr. Phillips was one of the many physicians who spent time in Haiti, providing medical care to the country's residents after the devastating earthquake.
