Welcome to the Georgetown University/ Medstar Health Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship program. The goal of our program is to train the next generation of leaders in cardiovascular care. We offer extensive training in all aspects of cardiovascular care across both inpatient and outpatient experiences.
Fellows rotate across four hospitals, with Medstar Washington Hospital Center, the DC VA Medical center, and Children’s National Medical center all located on one campus at the heart of Washington DC 3 miles from the Capitol while Medstar Georgetown University center is located on the campus of Georgetown University.
The majority of the time is spent at Medstar Washington Hospital Center. This is the largest hospital in DC and serves as the center of care for the local community as well as a tertiary referral center for management of complex cardiovascular disease. Two months in the first and second year are spent at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital, a hospital with a focus on specialized care in a wide variety of conditions such as oncology, neurosurgery, and solid organ transplant. The DC VA Medical Center is another integral part of the fellowship with both inpatient and outpatient cardiovascular experiences. Lastly, all fellows spend one month at Children’s National Medical Center seeing patients with adult congenital heart disease.
Over the course of three years, fellows get an in-depth clinical experience and research opportunities with a diverse and engaged faculty with a focus on education and career mentorship. The first two years serve as core clinical years, with the third year dedicated to the attainment of additional skills and knowledge base aimed towards helping each fellow achieve their personalized career goals.
