The fourth year is a flexible year individually designed for each resident. There are multiple opportunities, including: four chief positions (inpatient Georgetown University Hospital, outpatient Georgetown University Hospital, Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington D.C., education chief) and electives. Residents can opt to pursue a research fellowship at the NIMH or fast-track to Child & Adolescent Psychiatry after their PGY-3 year. Other opportunities include: college mental health (Counseling and Psychiatric Services at Georgetown University), Washington Hospital Center clinics and outpatient services, research, women’s mental health, teaching students and junior residents, and other mental health related electives within the community.
