As mentioned on other pages in this website, our residents rotate between 3 sites which means students can also rotate at our 3 sites! At MedStar Franklin Square, we have a longitudinal student training program for Georgetown University School of Medicine 3rd year students. These students complete their core 3rd year rotations at Franklin Square, rotating through Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Obstetrics & Gynecology, along with subspecialty rotations. We also host an ICU rotation for various osteopathic schools.
At MedStar Good Samaritan and MedStar Union Memorial we have core and elective students rotating from both AUC and SABA Schools of Medicine. They spend time on the general medicine teams and also on many electives.
We are also proud to have a long history hosting University of Maryland students for the Introduction to Clinical Medicine I and II courses. Four of our faculty members meet weekly with the students to introduce them to the tenets of appropriate history taking (ICM I) and physical examination (ICM II).
Finally, we host 8-10 students each summer for our annual summer research program. We have students from Georgetown University who spend 8 full-time weeks with us paired with a faculty preceptor working on a research project. One of our research groups is focusing on what factors might improve the patient experience and another is Project ACE (angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors) which looks at the incidence of ACE-1 induced non-allergic angioedema.
