James C. Dreese, MD
Program Director Sports Medicine Fellowship and Director of Sports Medicine Research
James Dreese, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon, fellowship-trained in sports medicine. He is double board-certified in Orthopedic Surgery and Orthopedic Sports Medicine. He serves as associate director of Union Memorial Sports Medicine and as research director for the MedStar Sports Medicine Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship. He was recently elected to serve as one of two delegates from the state of Maryland on the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine Council of Delegates. He has served as editor-in-chief and has been appointed to numerous committees for the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. Dr. Dreese is an associate team physician for the Baltimore Ravens, head team orthopedist for Loyola University, actively involved in sports medicine research, and has published numerous articles and book chapters.
Steve Svoboda, MD

Colonel (retired) 23-year military career Steven Svoboda, MD is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with a sub-specialty certification in orthopedic sports medicine. Dr. Svoboda is associated with MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and MedStar Washington Hospital Center and serves as a team physician for the NHL’s Washington Capitals, NBA's Washington Wizards, and Prince George’s County High Schools.
An accomplished clinician-scientist, Dr. Svoboda firmly believes that evidence-based outcomes assessment of patient care is essential to improving orthopedic sports medicine care.
During his military career, Dr. Svoboda served as Chief of Orthopedic Sports Medicine, Brooke Army Medical Center and the Director of Orthopedic Research, US Army Institute for Surgical Research, both located at Fort Sam in Houston, Texas, from 2005-2007. He was the Program Director of the COL John A. Feagin, Jr. Sports Medicine Fellowship, the Department of Defense’s only program of this type, at West Point from 2009 to 2017. In that role, he was responsible for training all of the Orthopedic Sports Medicine sub-specialists in the US Army.
Richard Hinton, MD
Medical Director of Sports Medicine
Richard Y. Hinton, MD, MPH, PT, is the medical director of MedStar Sports Medicine, director of the MedStar Sports Medicine Fellowship Program, and an attending orthopedic surgeon at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Hinton's practice is concentrated on knee and shoulder conditions and involves athletes at the recreational, scholastic, collegiate, and professional levels of play. Dr. Hinton specializes in ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) reconstruction and revision surgery. He has a special interest in pediatric and adolescent sports medicine, including ACL injuries and osteochondritis dissecans.
Wiemi Douoguih, MD

Wiemi Douoguih, MD, an orthopedic surgeon, serves as Director of Sports Medicine for MedStar Washington Hospital Center's Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a member of the MedStar Orthopaedic Institute and the National Orthopedics, P.C. Dr. Douoguih specializes in arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, elbow, and knee, with a particular emphasis on new and emerging minimally invasive reconstructive surgical procedures.
Richard Levine, MD
Dr. Levine graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science in 1991. While at Cornell, he played Division 1 soccer and lacrosse. He completed his medical school training at the State University of New York Downstate College of Medicine in 1995 and completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in 2000. Dr. Levine then moved to Baltimore, where he completed his fellowship training in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital 2001.
Kenneth Tepper, MD
Dr. Kenneth Tepper is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, fellowship trained in sports medicine who sees patients in Pikesville and in Westminster, Carroll County. He is one of only a few surgeons nationwide who perform hip arthroscopy and is the Director of Hip Preservation and Arthroscopy at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital. He is the first hip arthroscopic surgeon in the Baltimore region to use the Dyonics Plan, which is a 3-D computer modeling program for hip impingement (femoroacetabular impingement – FAI).
Jacob Wisbeck, MD
Dr. Wisbeck actively participates in teaching residents and fellows in the office, the classroom, and in the operating room. Fellows participate in his research endeavors ranging from testing new orthopedic technology to clinical outcomes studies.
Milford Marchant, MD
Milford H. Marchant Jr., MD, has extensive clinical expertise in treating a wide variety of sports-related injuries and arthritis of the shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee. He specializes in the non-operative and operative treatment of injuries in adult and youth patients of all skill levels, from recreational to professional athletes. He emphasizes patient education and the importance of injury prevention and rehabilitation.

Christopher Looze, MD

Christopher Looze, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon who is fellowship trained in sports medicine. A former professional baseball player within the Toronto Blue Jays organization, he has a personal passion for sports and wants his work to have a positive impact on the athletes of today and tomorrow. As part of the MedStar Sports Medicine team, Dr. Looze is a team physician for the Baltimore Orioles.
Prior to joining MedStar Orthopaedic Institute, he completed a fellowship at the Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center, recognized globally as a leader in orthopedic patient care, research, education and injury prevention. Dr. Looze earned his medical degree at the New York University School of Medicine, followed by completion of a residency at NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases.
William Postma, MD
Chief of Sports Medicine at Medstar Georgetown Orthopaedic Institute
Dr. William Postma is the Chief of Sports Medicine at Medstar Georgetown Orthopaedic Institute and the Vice Chairman of Education. Originally from South Carolina, he went to medical school at Medical University of South Carolina and completed his residency at Georgetown. He subsequently underwent a sports medicine fellowship at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center before returning to Medstar Georgetown University Hospital.
His clinical practice focuses on arthroscopic surgery of the hip and knee where he specializes in Hip Impingement/FAI/Labral tears, ACL/Ligament reconstruction, Cartilage Restoration, Meniscal pathology, Patellofemoral/knee instability, and all other non-arthritic conditions . These areas are also the focus of his research where he publishes regularly in peer-reviewed journals. He treats athletes of all ages and abilities from high school, collegiate, and professional athletes to the weekend warrior and middle-aged athlete. Dr. Postma is a Professor of Orthopaedics at Georgetown University School of Medicine and servers as the Head Orthopaedic Surgeon for Georgetown University Athletics. Finally, he is also the Head Orthopaedic Surgeon for the Washington Wizards.
