Monica W. Rose, MSN, CRNA, is a senior certified registered nurse anesthetist in the Department of Anesthesiology, MedStar Washington Hospital Center (MWHC). With more than a decade of clinical and educational practice, Ms. Rose has experience administering anesthesia for a wide variety of patients, including those undergoing neurological, vascular, general, orthopaedic and gynecologic surgeries. She collaborated in reestablishing MWHC as a primary clinical site for the Georgetown University Nurse Anesthesia program. In her previous positon as assistant clinical director for the Georgetown University Nurse Anesthesia programs, she organized and structured daily clinical activities for anesthesia nurses in training.

Ms. Rose is the president-elect of the District of Columbia Association of Nurse Anesthetists, and she is a member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists. She is a registered nurse and is board certified as a nurse anesthetist. Honors she has achieved include a Patient First Award from MWHC.

Her master’s degree in nursing (nurse anesthesia concentration) is from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. She earned a certificate of completion in nurse anesthesia, Wake Forest University/North Carolina Baptist Hospital School of Nurse Anesthesia, Winston-Salem, NC. She has additional training in obstetric anesthesia from Wayne State University, Detroit, MI, and she is currently completing a PhD in nursing at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston.

Selected Research

Ms. Rose is working to decrease the number of same-day surgical case cancellations related to anesthesia concerns and to advance nurse anesthesia research to improve patient outcomes, safety and care. She is currently serving as a sub-investigator for a human factors study involving eye tracking of anesthesiologists.
