Don’t Let Foot and Ankle Pain Slow You Down

See one of the area’s most experienced doctors

When your foot or ankle is causing you pain or not working properly, it affects every aspect of your life. Walking to work or around the grocery is more difficult. It hurts to chase after your kids or the Metro. It gets in the way of your exercise routine whether that’s running, yoga or strolling around the park.

In his 25 years of practice at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, Dr. Paul S. Cooper has seen patients delay care and suffer needlessly. He wants you to know: you do not have to live with discomfort.

That’s why Dr. Cooper sees patients every Tuesday morning in the Orthopaedic and Sports Center at MedStar Health at Lafayette Centre, located in the heart of downtown Washington, D.C. Schedule an appointment now  or call (202) 416-2000 (press 1, then 1).

Holistic care from an orthopedic specialist

As a board-certified orthopedic specialist, Dr. Cooper understands how the bones, muscles and tissue in the foot and ankle interact with the rest of your body. Maybe your back hurts; maybe you feel it in your hip. Whatever it is, Dr. Cooper’s training and 25 years of experience enable him to take a holistic approach to find the source of the problem and develop a comprehensive treatment plan that’s right for you.

Conditions treated

While Dr. Cooper is a renowned orthopedic specialist with deep expertise to repair complex problems, he also wants to help patients earlier before their conditions get worse. And sometimes the best treatment isn’t surgery at all – physical therapy or special shoes may be enough. Dr. Cooper treats the following conditions of the foot and ankle:

  • Bunions and hammer toe
  • Neuromas
  • Planter Fasciitis
  • Foot and ankle fractures, sprains, instability, arthritis
  • Sports injuries
  • Achilles tendonitis
  • Heel spurs
  • Tendon and ligament tears
  • Foot salvage / failed surgery

Convenient care, all under one roof

We have designed the MedStar Orthopaedic and Sports Center at Lafayette Centre to save you time, with related services all in one place. If you need an X-ray, physical therapy, or to see Dr. Cooper, you just walk across the hall. There is even a surgery center here. You don’t need to go anywhere else to fix your foot and ankle pain.

Care for everyone with a unique focus on women

During his career, Dr. Cooper has seen the extreme damage patients can do to their ankles and feet by delaying treatment. In particular, he has found that women put off seeing a doctor because they are too busy caring for others and they tend to put their own needs last.

That insight has driven him to create this clinic where busy women can consult with him and conveniently get related services, such as x-rays and physical therapy, all in the same location. He understands that the headache of going to multiple appointments in different places is one of the reasons patients ignore their foot and ankle pain.

Time-efficient appointments

Here, we have a multi-disciplinary team located onsite to build a custom treatment plan for each patient. This may include x-ray, physical therapy, foot scanning analysis, insole and footwear recommendations, or custom orthotics. For Dr. Cooper to best evaluate your condition, please bring three pairs of the shoes you wear most often to your first appointment.
