The professional baseball team partnered with MedStar due to the breadth and depth of expertise embodied in MedStar Sports Medicine, one of the premier sports medicine programs in the country.

The professional baseball team partnered with MedStar due to the breadth and depth of expertise embodied in MedStar Sports Medicine, one of the premier sports medicine programs in the country.

MedStar Sports Medicine offers the latest advancements in sports medicine through MedStar’s 10 hospitals and its network of community-based healthcare services.

More than 55 sports organizations, including the Baltimore Ravens, Washington Capitals, Washington Wizards, Baltimore Blast, and US Lacrosse, have partnered with MedStar Sports Medicine as their official medical team.

“We are the region’s leader in orthopaedics and sports medicine. Our patients range from weekend warriors to elite professionals. Along with Dr. Curl and Dr. Papp, we have over 20 years’ experience in caring for our Baltimore professional football and baseball teams,” says Michael Jacobs, MD, an orthopaedic surgeon at MedStar Health, who began working as the Orioles team orthopaedist in 2014.

Team physician, Derek Papp, MD, is an orthopaedic surgeon at MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital, and Leigh Ann Curl, MD, is an orthopaedic surgeon at MedStar Harbor Hospital and head team physician for the Baltimore Ravens.

MedStar Sports Medicine has 50 physicians, each of whom has attained the highest level of specialization. They and their team are focused on patient care, education, research, and team relationships, and are dedicated to enhancing the health and performance of all individuals, regardless of their activity levels. In addition, MedStar conducts cardiovascular and head injury research for the National Football League, and offers a sports medicine fellowship program for young orthopaedic surgeons to learn the art and science of sports medicine.
