Lal Ding was born without a thumb and with a shortened forearm as part of a condition known as “radial club hand.” Now, Lal, who turns 8 on New Year’s Day, is working toward having a functioning right arm and hand following a groundbreaking surgery performed by Ryan Katz, MD, and James Higgins MD, from the Curtis National Hand Center at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital.
