William Frohna, MD, FACEP
Vice President, Medical Operations

William Frohna, MD, FACEP, serves as vice president, Medical Operations for MedStar Medical Group (MMG). In this role, his focus is on improving the clinical operations of the specialty physician practices within MedStar Health.

A physician leader with MedStar Health for more than 21 years, Dr. Frohna was most recently chair of MedStar Emergency Physicians (MEP); an employed group of 160 emergency physicians and 90 physician assistants that care for more than 420,000 patients annually in seven MedStar Health Emergency departments. As chair of MEP, he provided operational, personnel and financial oversight to those departments working with the leadership of each to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, efficient, equitable, timely, and patient-centered care. He led his group’s efforts in developing a case-based, risk reduction strategy and has helped develop consistent, meaningful measures utilized in the ongoing and focused professional practice evaluations of providers at the seven Emergency departments.

During his time with MedStar Health, Dr. Frohna has also served as chair of the Emergency departments at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, MedStar Union Memorial Hospital and MedStar Franklin Square Hospital Center.

In addition to the above, Dr. Frohna was chair of the MMG Governing Council, a group of senior clinical leaders brought together to help guide MedStar Health in its journey to establish an aligned, engaged, high-performing multispecialty employed-provider medical group of over 2000 attending physicians and 1000 advanced practice providers.He also chaired the MMG Emergency Medicine Clinical Practice Council, which was charged with improving the professional practice of emergency and urgent care as well as defining the model of emergency and urgent care delivery in the MedStar Health system.

In 2015, Dr. Frohna concluded an 11-year tenure as medical director for M&T Bank Stadium, home of the Baltimore Ravens, where he had organized the airway management team for injured players/participants and directed first aid services for the more than eight million guests who attended stadium events.

Dr. Frohna completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin in Madison and earned his medical degree at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. This was followed by an internship and residency at the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington. He came east to work at MedStar Washington Hospital Center after completing his military obligation as a major in the Medical Corps.
