Our associates supported patients and families by partnering in the convenient, accessible, high quality care available across the growing 9 ambulatory locations serving our community.

With their philanthropic partnerships, patients continued to benefit from excellent healthcare available where they live and work, some services include:

The Community Health department was able to provide health care education!

 


MedStar Health Institute for Quality and Safety

Patient Safety Summer Camp scholarships for graduate medical residents and health sciences students in medicine, nursing, and pharmacy from around the world.

These MedStar led educational camps aim to change the current culture of healthcare, instilling the most innovative and effective quality and safety practices.

 

 


MedStar Health Research Institute

The Investigator-Associate Giving Grant Fund helped established the careers of 5 new investigators who advanced the health for patients resulting in better outcomes, patient safety, and quality.

Investigator research this year includes:

  • Mitigate physician and nurse error in the emergency room; ultimately improving patient safety and quality
  • Provide a body of evidence on significant research on transplant recipients, which will ultimately improve transplant outcomes
  • Evaluate payment reform on patient care and quality which could impact healthcare policy going forward

 


MedStar Institute for Innovation/MedStar SiTEL

Transforming care through consulting tools, courses, and educational events, equipping MedStar associates to:

 


MedStar Visiting Nurses Association

Nurses and therapists provide tools for better care in patient’s homes. With Quality of Life Funds dispersed since the beginning of this fiscal year, Associate investments used to purchase:

Over 100 Grab Bars and Nearly 70 Shower Seats and Benches, plus:

  • Tub Transfer Benches and Adjustable Tub Sears
  • Walking Sticks
  • Prescriptions
  • Glucometers
  • Blood Pressure Cuffs
  • Elevated Toilet Seats
  • Obese Scale

Caregivers for patients and for each other!

The Happiness Fund provides financial assistance to associates in times of need. Three associates this year were greatly supported by colleague generosity during difficult, life changing hardships.

 


MedStar Georgetown University Hospital


The modernization and beautification of the outdoor podium has begun! Additional seating has arrived to the podium which will provide our patients, families, and associates the opportunity to enjoy. As we enter into spring, artist Sue Fierston will begin transforming the Labyrinth and surrounding areas. Inspired by the colors of the garden outside the GU School of Medicine and adjacent to Dahlgren Library, the project will bring color and light to the CCC building through painting the engaged and freestanding columns surrounding the main square in front of the Surgery Center Waiting area.

 


MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital

The cancer center benefited by the purchase of 25 new infusion chairs that help patients relax in comfort with the option to change postures during treatment.

These new infusion chairs will:

  • Increase patient comfort – reclines, foot rest, etc.
  • Improve caregiver efficiency
  • Improve patient safety
  • Promote recovery / freedom of movement
  • Positive effect -  healing environment

MedStar Harbor Hospital


Updates to include new indoor and outdoor benches, as well as, modernization of the fountain to reduce water usage in
support of the Blue Water Baltimore“Healthy Communities, Healthy Environment” project.

 


MedStar Montgomery Medical Center

The Perioperative Process is a value stream project that takes a hard look at workflow and current areas to improve upon.

Results from extensive study to improve the patient care experience:

  • Empowers associates to bring about change, add value and share improvements
  • Increase in quality and safety for patients and associates
  • Departments become more streamlined and reduces wait time
  • Improves patient satisfaction with a higher level of care

 


MedStar National Rehabilitation Network

Provide Outpatient Transportation 
Many outpatients do not immediately have the ability to operate a vehicle after injury. With your support, the Taxi Program provided over 180 rides (and counting!) to those in need of transportation to important medical appointments.

Purchase DIEGO Inpatient Therapy Equipment
Our Inpatient fund purchased the upper extremity therapy equipment. DIEGO (pictured) is one of the most advanced and versatile arm-shoulder rehabilitation devices in the world. With its intelligent gravity compensation and robotics and virtual reality, you would be helping us bring cutting-edge technology to our patients seeking to regain arm motor function.

 


MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital

Renovations to the Atrium Café dining area are underway and scheduled to be completed this summer. The space will include meeting room high-tec audio/visual equipment, privacy room divider, a new look, including updated furniture, lighting, flooring, and décor. The expansion of the Atrium Café will better accommodate and provide hope and healing for patients, their families and family, and those who work tirelessly to care for them.

 


MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center


Assists patients with transportation needs and options upon hospital discharge - extending the care experience past the walls of our hospital.

 


MedStar Union Memorial Hospital

Provide comfort and safety to patients and visitors:

  • For inpatients who need help relaxing and sleeping, the C.A.R.E. channel provides soothing music and imagery
  • For patients and visitors, additional benches and seating throughout the hospital provides convenient places to rest
  • For patients who are not able to pay for their care, the fund has provided much-needed resources for patients who do not have the resources for transportation to and from appointments, or who cannot afford equipment such as walkers and canes

MedStar Washington Hospital Center


Improvements to the patient and visitor care experience of the emergency department are underway! With plans to purchase new patient monitoring and diagnostic equipment, procedure carts, and chairs for visitors and families in patient rooms, emergency services will increase in availability, efficiency, and effectiveness.
