Our campaign focus is to support, enhance, and sustain a selection of patient experience initiatives. In collaboration with leadership and the Power to Heal Campaign Committees, we have developed specific initiatives that will benefit the patient and family care experience at our entities.
Below are the patient experience initiatives chosen across the system.
Commitments to MedStar Health will support the implementation of the Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) System to control pain for a variety of chronic joint and/or muscular pain syndromes. The system does not replace the need for pain medicine, but will reduce the amount of medicine needed for relief. It eases patient’s comfort during the healing process.
MedStar Ambulatory Services
Commitments to MedStar Ambulatory Services will support a play center with toys and books in the waiting area, and therapy/clinical equipment for rehab for pediatric patients at MedStar Health in Bel Air.
MedStar Health Institute for Quality and Safety
Commitments to MedStar Health Institute for Quality and Safety, will be used to create a Fellowship Research position. This researcher will focus on Quality and Safety Initiatives within the system.
MedStar Health Research Institute
At MedStar Health Research Institute, this year’s initiative will support the New Investigator’s Grant Fund. This fund helps to establish the careers of investigators who are new to MedStar Health, helping to advance health for patients, families and communities we serve.
MedStar Institute for Innovation and MedStar SiTEL
At MedStar Institute for Innovation (MI2), commitments will support the MedStar Innovation & Design Lab (MIND Lab) to be constructed at the corporate offices for associates and visitors.
At MedStar SiTEL, funds will support MedStar International Training Center for Bloodless Medicine and Surgery to benefit continued development of e-learning curriculum and CME accredited modules to train clinicians worldwide on best practices in Bloodless Medicine and Surgery. The modules will be offered for free to clinicians world-wide through the development of a web platform to showcase the library of available modules.
MedStar Sports Medicine
Commitments to MedStar Sports Medicine will support the development associated with the newly created PASSport Program - Youth Sports Annual Symposium. This inaugural conference, scheduled for spring 2018, will engage local youth sports organizations and coaches to discuss and educate ways to redefine the culture of youth sports. Examples of educational components include: an overview of MedStar Sports Medicine injury prevention, nutrition, sports psychiatry and Positive Coaching Alliance.
MedStar Visiting Nurse Association
Commitments to MedStar Visiting Nurse Association will benefit the Quality of Life Fund. This fund provides crisis support to home health patients who lack the financial means to pay for basic medical supplies, prescription medicines, or daily living necessities required to help them heal safely at home.
MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center
Commitments to MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center will help improve the patient experience in two exciting ways: renovating the Inpatient Oncology Unit, and making updating and enhancing the infusion center in the Weinberg Cancer Center. In 2016, Associates made generous gifts toward the Inpatient Oncology project ($50,000 total). With your additional support this year, as well as generous gifts from other benefactors, we anticipate raising the final $300,000 needed in order for renovations in begin in 2018. Both these projects (the inpatient unit and the infusion center) have the power to positively impact the patient experience by providing a beautiful, healing environment for those who turn to us for care.
MedStar Georgetown University Hospital
Commitments to MedStar Georgetown will focus on patient comfort and ease during construction of the Medical/Surgical Pavilion. This may include enhanced transportation options and added amenities for patient comfort. This may include the purchase of a new golf cart for patient transportation, charging phone stations, water bottle stations, and more.
MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital
Commitments to MedStar Good Samaritan will support the purchase of equipment and other items needed for the new Inpatient Rehabilitation Center. These funds will help furnish and equip the “Easy Street” simulation area that will assist patients with everyday mobility rehabilitation.
MedStar Harbor Hospital
Commitments to MedStar Harbor Hospital will help purchase the C.A.R.E Channel, which displays soothing music and scenery for patients and families, as well as, stress reduction items for clinicians within the hospital. Funds will also support a Mobile Health Unit which provides medical services and treatments directly within the community of South Baltimore’s underserved patient population.
MedStar Montgomery Medical Center
Commitments to MedStar Montgomery Funds raised will support renovations to the emergency department, identified through the emergency department’s value stream improvement, that will advance and accelerate patient care and experience.
MedStar National Rehabilitation Network
At MedStar National Rehabilitation Network, commitments invested in the Outpatient initiative support patient transportation to and from therapy appointments at various ambulatory sites. The Inpatient initiative benefits renovations in our Independence Square rehabilitation area, where we seek to improve the space for our patients’ therapy needs.
MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center
Commitments to MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center will help ensure the comfort of our patients, families and the communities we serve.
MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital
Commitments to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital will purchase new waiting lounge furniture in the emergency department.
MedStar Union Memorial Hospital
Commitments to MedStar Union Memorial Hospital will help furnish a new “family room” to serve our inpatient medical floors, offering privacy and a place for respite and consultation. Funds will also help build a new surgery waiting room off the lobby in the Johnston Professional Building. This new facility will feature state-of-the-art technology to enhance communication between family members and physicians.
MedStar Washington Hospital Center
Commitments to MedStar Washington Hospital Center will refresh the Intensive Care Patient and Family Waiting Rooms in the main hospital to create a more comfortable, calming, and healing environment for patients, their families, and their caregivers. This priority was identified by the ICU Patient and Family Advisory Council for Quality and Safety to improve the quality of the care we provide. Plans include purchasing new furnishings and more comfortable furniture, installing water lines for easily accessible fresh water, and creating space for private family consultations.
