The Health Economics and Aging Research (H.E.A.R.) Institute

We turn our compassionate expertise in medicine and research into care that focuses on the dignity and well-being of older adults. Our experts positively impact patients through the management of chronic conditions, prevention of disease, and promotion of healthy aging.

A vision developed by Dana H. Frank, MD, chairman of medicine at MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital and MedStar Union Memorial Hospital, the Health Economics and Aging Research (H.E.A.R.) Institute, embarks to change the care experience for some of our most vulnerable patients.

Look inside!

We have officially opened the new patient care space on the campus of MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital. It is designed to provide innovative patient and family centered care to those living with multiple complex chronic conditions. Featuring 16 modern exam rooms, each equipped with team meeting space, the program represents our innovative approach to coordinated specialty care managed by an intensive core medical team.

The Health Economics and Aging Research Institute at MedStar Health, located adjacent to the Collaborative Care Program, will conduct research designed to evaluate the program’s patient outcomes–adjusting services and refining the care model. Patients cared for through this program are faced with multiple complex chronic conditions such as congestive heart failure, diabetes, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The H.E.A.R Institute supports research exploring how healthcare delivery innovations of today will become a part of tomorrow’s routine care for all patients.
