The Chernikoffs Share Gratitude with a Bequest
In 2006, Robert Chernikoff began experiencing sleepless nights and daytime fatigue. When his sleeplessness led to disorientation and memory loss, Robert and his wife, Bonnie, became concerned.
Robert went to see several doctors before receiving the diagnosis that he had limbic encephalitis, an autoimmune disease in which the body produces antibodies that attack the brain, causing serious inflammation. After having received this frightening diagnosis, Robert struggled to find the expertise he needed until he came to MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital in 2007. He received care from Michael Yochelson, MD, a nationally-known brain injury specialist, and quickly recognized that he had found the best. “He does two things that make him an excellent doctor, he listens, and he observes.”
Robert and Bonnie were so grateful to Dr. Yochelson and the MedStar NRH team; they decided to make a philanthropic investment through a bequest to the hospital in their will.
