Caring for Athletes’ Hearts
Over the past two decades, the face of athletics has changed significantly—with an increasing number of recreational athletes now running marathons, doing triathlons, or cycling “centuries.” Sports cardiology is an emerging subspecialty of cardiology that fills a previously undetected void in athletes’ care, both recreational and professional, and active individuals with cardiovascular disease or symptoms. Cancer Care with Heart
Cardio-oncology is a relatively new medical sub-specialty dedicated to minimizing the effects of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in people with cancer—before, during and after their treatment. The cardio-oncology team at MedStar health includes cardiologists and oncologists who work together to help address the health problems that arise in this patient population. Learn more.
Robotic-Assisted Navigation for Spine Surgery
Given the dual challenges of an older patient population with complex spine problems and a strong impetus for cost-effective care, robotic spine surgery is one solution to increase efficiency and decrease potential risks and complications. It combines image-guided surgery with a stiff robotic arm that places pedicle screws in an ideal trajectory for each patient’s anatomy. Learn more.
A Better Way to Treat Breast Cancer Patients
MedStar Good Samaritan has cutting edge technologies and services including genetic counseling; an infusion center; onsite CT, MRI, ultrasound, mammography, and breast biopsy; clinical trials and radiation therapy. It has the Varian Halcyon system, a new cancer technology that advances radiotherapy treatment. Surgical services include intraoperative radiation therapy, localization with Savi Scout and oncoplastic and reconstructive surgery. Learn More.
