We are proud to highlight some of the journeys our patients have taken to return to their lives following a heart condition diagnosis.
An avid gardener and grandmother of six, Connie Wiley’s atrial fibrillation (A-fib) left her tired and unable to function well. After a massive coronary and three strokes, she turned to MedStar Heart & Vascular Institute to get her life back. Surgeons used the WATCHMAN™ device to close off her left atrial appendage, where most major clots develop in A-fib patients. One year later, Connie is back to her normal life and feeling great.
When 79-year-old Rose Warfield was nervous about getting valve replacement to repair her aortic stenosis, her cardiologist referred her to MedStar Heart & Vascular Institute. Rose’s doctor performed transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), a procedure for patients too ill to undergo traditional valve replacement. Rose was walking around the day after the surgery without feeling out of breath for the first time in years.
What happens when a bad cough is more than a bad cough? For Gerard Folly, it was life changing. The father of three turned to the same team that helped his own father with a heart condition years before – MedStar Heart & Vascular Institute. Thankfully for Gerard, a heart transplant has given him – and his family – a new lease on life.
We provide services at hospital- and community-based locations throughout the Baltimore and Washington metropolitan area.
Each year MedStar Heart & Vascular Institute cares for thousands of patients positively impacting not only their lives, but the lives of their friends and family. If we have provided care for you, or someone you know, and you would like to share your story, we would love to hear from you.
