From internal medicine and surgery, obstetrics, diabetes, behavioral health, orthopaedics, and emergency medicine, our team of caring physicians and associates serves the unique needs of every patient. MedStar Harbor Hospital offers one of the nation’s leading internal medicine residency programs. Our residents, who play a vital role in the care of our patients, are among the best in the country, as evidenced by their consistent 100 percent national board certification pass rate and standardized test scores in the top seven percent nationwide.
The hospital is also home to several innovative partners, including the Simulation Training and Education Lab (SiTEL), the education technology group of MedStar Health. SiTEL transforms educational approaches in health care by developing 21st century training technologies with innovative educational approaches that are user friendly and easily accessible.
Recently, MedStar Health introduced the MedStar Health Mobile Health Center to the community. The mobile unit is a joint partnership between MedStar Harbor Hospital and MedStar Sports Medicine. This shared resource is being used to provide care to the underserved communities of South Baltimore and to take MedStar Health’s premier sports medicine expertise out on the road. MedStar Harbor Hospital’s latest community health needs assessments indicated that transportation issues are a key barrier to health care access for many residents of South Baltimore. The mobile health center serves as a solution, essentially as a “primary care center on wheels.”
MedStar Harbor Hospital also offers its innovative Food Rx program, a unique, evidence-based approach to providing medically tailored food and nutritional support to patients with diabetes related to food insecurity. Food Rx is a population health initiative helps qualified patients from the communities near the hospital manage diabetes and develop healthier eating habits. Food Rx has been proven to successfully help individuals lose weight, lower blood sugar, and reduce emergency department visits and medical expenses.
