Educational Objectives

  • Obtain detailed clinical experience and competency in medical and surgical limb salvage through direct patient care. 
    • Assist the attending physicians during one outpatient clinic day per week at the Center for Wound Healing
    • Work with and understand how to implement the team approach to limb salvage incorporating multidisciplinary members such as plastic surgery, podiatric surgery, vascular surgery, orthopaedic surgery, nursing, nurse practitioner, physical therapy, prosthetics / orthotics, internal medicine, endocrinology, and nephrology

  • Develop teaching and leadership skills
    • Assist in directing weekly Problem Wound Case Conference with residents and program attendings
    • Work closely with in-house patient management team of plastic surgery, podiatric surgery, nursing
    • Assist in teaching rounds for in-patient service
    • Present cases and topic lectures to Plastic Surgery Grand Rounds
    • Travel to a minimum of two national scientific meetings for podium presentations

  • Understand and implement the scientific method in clinical research
    • Work with a research coordinator in executing ongoing clinical trials research
    • Collaborate with the Basic Sciences Wound Healing Laboratory
    • Author two or more scientific papers for publication in a peer-reviewed journal
    • Understand and develop a prospective clinical research project evaluating a relevant question
    • Effectively collect data from electronic and paper sources
