Program Composition - Plastic Surgery at MedStar Georgetown

Organization of Training

The Integrated Training Program in Plastic Surgery at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital is a six-year program. The program is set up to admit residents at the PGY-1 level to complete six years of training. The first three years, which include six months total in plastic surgery, focus on general surgery training while the last three years focus on plastic surgery specifically. As of July 1, 2002, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) has approved an expansion of the integrated program. The complement of the program was increased from 12 residents to 18. In March of 2002 the program matched three PGY-1 residents, an increase from the previous year when we matched two.
