Applicant Information - Child/Adolescent Psychiatry at MedStar Georgetown

Each year, the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Residency Training Program accepts applications for two first year positions. All applications must be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Interviews are by invitation only and are required. They will be scheduled at the mutual convenience of the applicant and the Department of Psychiatry. When interviewed, please plan on spending a full day at our program.

Although we have no absolute minimum requirements for USMLE scores, the average applicant invited to interview scored approximately 205 on their Steps. We strongly prefer that applicants pass their Step 1, 2 and 3 within two attempts. All applicants for a residency position must be graduates of an LCME-accredited medical school, an AOA-accredited medical school, or a medical school listed in the WHO Directory of Medical Schools. The Program Director, or his/her designee, will evaluate and select the candidates he/she believes to be most qualified for the positions available within the training program and select which candidates to interview. Credentials considered in this selection process will include:

  1. Global performance in medical school, including:
    • Dean's letter
    • Class rank
    • Transcript
    • Continuity of medical education
  2. Personal Statement/Motivation for Psychiatry
  3. USMLE or COMLEX examination scores
  4. Letters of Recommendation
  5. ECFMG Certification, if applicable. For International Medical Graduates, we will only assist with J-1 visas sponsored by the ECFMG. We do not sponsor H1b visas.
