Program Overview - Radiation Oncology at MedStar Georgetown

The Department of Radiation Medicine at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital is dedicated to promoting health and wellness through expert and compassionate clinical care. Radiation oncology residency program is a four-year program with a tradition of graduating outstanding academic and clinical physicians. We are a member of the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, and we are fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Our residents gain experience in all of the clinical sub-specialties of radiation oncology, and they have the unique opportunity to devote 11 months of their training to either laboratory or clinical research in their particular fields of interest. Prior residents have dedicated this time to projects in radiobiology, radiation physics, drug development and population health. Also, most residents have been involved in the clinical protocols developed in our department. Our mission is to train residents with a strong foundation in both clinical practice and in research who will be successful in their future careers as radiation oncologists.

We participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP), and we accept one or two residents a year to maintain a total number of six residents in our program. Residency will begin at Georgetown with the PGY-2 year after the completion of a transitional or preliminary intern year. For details on applying for our residency program, please refer to the Application and Admission section.
