The MedStar Health Research Institute (MHRI) supports many research centers that conduct basic and translational research across the MedStar Health system. Our investigators are involved in pre-clinical investigation, investigator-initiated studies, early phase I/II clinical trials, large phase III multi-center trials, and test the clinical application of new advances in clinical practice. MHRI is an ideal organization for investigating healthcare delivery and outcomes research in tertiary-, specialty-, and community-based hospital settings. As the largest healthcare provider in the mid-Atlantic region, the MedStar Health System is located in one of the most culturally diverse regions of the United States.

As a result of its work with these diverse populations, MHRI understands the importance of—and is skilled at adapting its research and interventions to—the culture of the people they serve. Historically, our organization has led the country in the recruitment of minority participants for NIH-sponsored, multi-center, clinical trials. Our investigators are highly skilled and experienced at serving as national resources for health researchers and policymakers concerned about the health problems of cultural and ethnic minorities, women, and the disabled.

And, complimentary to its research expertise, MHRI's research centers are staffed with board-certified physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, certified diabetes educators, registered dietitians, medical technicians, and registered nurses. MHRI's staff members offer extensive expertise and experience in conducting research and providing high-quality care.
