Learn more about treatment options

Our AFib treatment goal is to get you back to living your normal, active life. Our cardiac specialists provide a comprehensive range of treatments, from medication through the most state-of-the-art, minimally invasive surgeries. We will work with you to develop a custom treatment plan that may include the following:

  • Medication

Medications can help control your heart rate and rhythm and reduce your risk of blood clots and stroke.

  • Cardioversion

A procedure that uses medication or an electrical shock to restore a normal heart rhythm.

  • Catheter ablation

A minimally invasive procedure that targets the heart tissue causing abnormal electrical signals.

  • Pulsed field ablation (PFA)

A newer, non-thermal ablation technique that uses electrical pulses to target the cells in the heart responsible for AFib, while sparing surrounding structures (ex. nerves, lungs, esophagus).

  • Hybrid AF treatment

A minimally invasive approach that combines surgical and catheter ablation for certain patients with persistent or longstanding persistent AFib. With the two types of ablation, a pattern, or MAZE, of scar tissue is created in the heart to help block the misfiring signals causing abnormal heart rhythm.

  • Left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) systems

For appropriate patients with AFib, this is a procedure used to reduce the risk of blood clots from the left atrial appendage (LAA) entering the bloodstream and causing a stroke. The WATCHMAN™ and Amulet™ devices help to seal off the LAA of the heart, a small pouch that is the site of almost all stroke-causing blood clots in people with AFib.

AFib can look different from one person to another

  • Newly diagnosed with AFib?

Our specialists can evaluate your heart rhythm, identify potential causes and discuss treatment options.

  • AFib keeps coming back?

If medications or other treatments aren't controlling your AFib, ablation may be an option.

  • Have persistent or longstanding persistent AFib?

Our specialists offer advanced treatment options, including Hybrid AF™ Therapy for appropriate patients.

  • Concerned about stroke?

AFib can increase your risk of stroke. Our specialists can evaluate your risk and determine whether medications or a left atrial appendage occlusion(LAAO) procedure may be appropriate.
