Farhang Alaee, MD

Farhang Alaee, MD

Farhang Alaee, MD, is a fellowship trained, board-eligible total joint replacement and trauma surgeon at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center and Medstar Harbor Hospital. He specializes in hip and knee reconstruction.

Dr. Alaee is focused on treating variety of issues related to hip and knee arthroplasty, including: partial and total knee replacement, hip resurfacing and replacement, fractures around previous implants, infections, and revisions of failed prior hip and knee arthroplasty. He has a special interest in new technology including robotic assisted joint replacement. Another area of focus is treating traumatic injuries, and fractures of the extremities including complex fractures around the knee and the hip.

During his fellowship, at the world’s largest medical center in Houston, Texas, Dr. Alaee worked alongside of nationally renowned hip and knee reconstructive surgeons using the newest techniques in joint arthroplasty. He won several awards for his research.

Dr. Alaee views his patients as a whole person, rather than as a single health condition needing repair. He works to ensure that his surgical patients are prepared appropriately for success by addressing their other health problems. Dr. Alaee will help coordinate their care, and his patients greatly value his counsel and advice.

Henry Boucher, MD

Dr. Henry Boucher is fellowship trained in joint replacement of the hip and knee. He specializes in primary (total/partial) knee replacements, robotic joint replacements using Makoplasty, as well as primary hip replacements involving anterior/posterior/lateral approaches.

Dr. Boucher is a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He also has extensive experience in the development of implants and instruments for hip and knee replacements. Dr. Boucher has been the recipient of the Golden Apple Award for teaching excellence and named “Top Doc” by Baltimore Magazine.

Frank Ebert, MD

Frank Ebert, MD

Dr. Ebert specializes in joint replacement. He sees patients in Lutherville and in Baltimore at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital. Dr. Ebert is fellowship trained in adult reconstructive surgery and is widely known as one of the pioneers of minimally invasive, two-incision hip replacement, becoming one of the first to perform the procedure nationwide.

His surgical focus is the hip and knee, specifically for primary hip and knee replacements and revision surgeries of both. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.

Awards: Dr. Ebert was named a 2017 “Top Doc” by Baltimore Magazine for Orthopeadic Surgery, Joint Replacement and has been recognized since 2015.

David Gold, MD

David Gold, MD

David L. Gold, MD, is a fellowship-trained and board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine and joint replacement, using both computer-assisted and traditional techniques. In addition to hip, knee, and shoulder replacements, Dr. Gold also performs fracture care and general orthopaedic surgery.

Dr. Gold attended the University of Maryland, where he received his medical degree, and completed his residency in orthopedic surgery, internship, and fellowship from the same institute. He also completed his fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Gold is the medical director for joint replacement surgery at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center and is part of MedStar Orthopaedics. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr. Gold focuses on combining high-quality patient care and surgical expertise to create an excellent patient experience. The office's nursing staff and physical therapists go above and beyond to make it a wonderful experience for each and every patient. Patients have such positive results that they cannot imagine having had a better experience while in a hospital.

Mark D. Hasenauer, MD

Mark D. Hasenauer, MD, is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in adult hip and knee reconstruction. He sees patients at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center, MedStar Union Memorial Hospital, and MedStar Health at Timonium.

Dr. Hasenauer specializes in primary, partial, and revision knee replacements, as well as primary and revision hip replacements. He has a special interest and expertise in anterior total hip replacement, computer navigation, and robotic-assisted joint replacement.

With so many treatment options available, Dr. Hasenauer’s philosophy of care is to ensure that each of his patients receive the right treatment at the right time, either surgical or non-surgical. His goal is to return patients to their desired level of movement and function.

Dr. Hasenauer graduated from New York Medical College where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He completed his internship and residency at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was selected as a Chief Resident in his final year and was honored with the DeForest P. Willard Award for outstanding performance. Lastly, he completed his fellowship in adult reconstruction at the Anderson Orthopaedic Clinic. Dr. Hasenauer is also a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Dr. Hasenauer’s extensive research background, scientific knowledge, and technical expertise empower him to provide his patients with the latest advancements and techniques in joint replacement.

Michael Jacobs, MD

I have been in the practice of orthopedics for 30 years. In addition to seeing patients at MedStar Good Samaritan Hospital, I see patients at MedStar Harbor and MedStar Union Memorial, and in Bel Air, Timonium, and Westminster. The only priority in my life has been to do whatever is in the best interest of my patients. That includes non-operative care, surgical procedures, and post-operative care. All are equally important. All patients receive procedures that are customized for their needs. That may include primary or revision total knee or hip replacement, partial knee replacement or robotic hip or knee replacement with the MAKOplasty technology.

For the entirety of my career I have been part of the faculty of the Johns Hopkins University Department of Orthopedics. That speaks directly to my commitment to excellence and my commitment to teaching. I have also lectured and performed surgery across the globe and specifically in Europe, Asia and South America. That experience has included working with the medical missionary group Operation Walk where we aided the disadvantaged in both Peru and Ecuador. I am fortunate in that I have had the benefit of a fantastic education at the college, medical school and fellowship levels. I am proud that I was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society, the Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Medical School Society and American Orthopedic Association. I am also very proud of the fact that I am also the Team Orthopedist for the Baltimore Orioles baseball team. On a daily basis I strive to apply what I have learned over the past 30 years to improve the lives of my patients.

Robert McKinstry, MD, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon, fellowship-trained in total joint replacement and reconstruction. He utilizes robotic joint replacement using MAKOplasty.

In addition to his medical degree, Dr. McKinstry earned a master's of physiology. He has also completed a medical device fellowship with the Center for Devices and Radiologic Health, part of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Dr. McKinstry is a member of the American Academy of Hip and Knee Surgeons and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Thomas Ring, MD

Thomas Ring, MD

Thomas Ring, MD, is a fellowship trained, board certified total joint replacement surgeon who practices at MedStar Orthopaedic Institute in Timonium and at the Hip and Knee Center at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital. After six years of clinical practice in Pennsylvania, he has returned to Baltimore and joined MedStar Orthopaedic Institute at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital.

In addition to his medical education, Dr. Ring also earned a masters’ degree in biomedical engineering. Dr. Ring applies an engineering mindset to each of his reconstruction patients to choose the best possible treatment based on each individual's unique anatomy and personal goals. He has years of experience with Makoplasty robotic procedures and is fellowship trained in computer-aided navigation. As a former Division 1 all-conference athlete and former marathoner, he understands the importance of optimal physical function and seeks to achieve this in each of his patients.

He is an Active Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery through 2025.
