Will you make a gift?

Your support will take our care to the next level and help improve outcomes for heart patients now, and in the future.

Led by Dr. Erika Feller, the Advanced Heart Failure Initiative expands access to life-saving cardiac care across the Baltimore region and rural areas like Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Your gift will support innovative heart failure care, community outreach with resources and education, and groundbreaking research in heart failure, heart transplant, and surgically implanted devices. Donations help fund a dedicated clinic for heart transplant patients, enhancing care coordination for those with complex heart failure through a multidisciplinary approach.

“Gifts enable us to expand how and where we're able to reach patients, making it easier to share important resources and reshape the landscape of what we’re able to accomplish together,” said Dr. Feller.

From Patient to Family: A Heartfelt Care Journey

Melody Tippett Smith knows the toll cardiovascular disease can take on a family. Her husband, Jerry, initially dismissed his breathlessness as lingering effects of a respiratory virus, but it soon revealed a deeper health challenge for him and their family.

At 54, Jerry was admitted to MedStar Washington Hospital Center after tests at his local hospital and MedStar Montgomery Medical Center. He was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and later received an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) to monitor his heart.
