Elmer E. Huerta, MD, MPH, is director of the Cancer Preventorium at Washington Cancer Institute at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Dr. Huerta is Past-President of the American Cancer Society and the first-ever Latino national president of the organization. Dr. Huerta is also a prominent figure on Spanish language radio and television, in the United States and Latin America. He is Senior Medical Editor for CNN en Espanol.
Dr. Huerta obtained his medical degree at the University of San Marcos in Lima, Peru. He trained in internal medicine and medical oncology at the National Cancer Institute in Peru, completed an oncology research fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Oncology Center, completed an internal medicine residency at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, received a Masters Degree in Public Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and completed a fellowship in cancer prevention and control at the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health.
