About me
Jashia Pinkney, CNM, MS, is a board-certified nurse midwife with Women's and Infants' Services at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. She provides the full scope of care throughout the lifespan, providing annual exams, contraception, helping women through menopause, and guiding birthing people through pregnancy. In her practice, Jashia works to empower her patients to care for their bodies, to believe that they are powerful, and to give them the confidence that they are able to birth beautiful babies. Her clinical interests include teen pregnancy, postpartum care, maternal & racial disparities, centering pregnancy programs, and midwifery advocacy.
As a certified birth coach and life coach, Jashia is passionate about empowering women, helping them grow and develop, and helping them to discover and use their inner power. She is also the CEO of She Births From Within, an organization that provides birth and personal coaching, holistic wellness, and childbirth education. She is co-host of the podcast Birth-ish, a space for African American women to amplify their voice, share their birth stories, and learn from and support one another.
Jashia received her Bachelor of Science in nursing, with a minor in public health, from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She then worked in various women’s health specialties, including postpartum and NICU, for four years before earning a Master of Science in nursing from the Nurse Midwifery and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner Program at Georgetown University. She completed her fellowship in certified nurse midwifery with George Washington University Hospital before joining MedStar Washington Hospital Center. She is active in community outreach and is currently the Director of Marketing & Outreach for the DC American College of Nurse Midwives Foundation.
Jashia enjoys working with women in the hospital setting because it allows her to expand her outreach. A multi-disciplinary hospital allows for collaboration between different specialties and opens the possibility of more birthing people working with midwives.
Jashia is a native of Washington, D.C. When she is not advocating for women or catching babies, she enjoys traveling and spending time with friends and family.
Philosophy of Care
“My motto is, ‘Everything you need to win, is already within.’ Life is all about living from the inside out. Every birthing person knows what’s best for their body. My role is to educate my patients and present them with all options, giving them the information they need to feel empowered in making the right decisions for their health and the health of their babies.
“I build a unique relationship with each one of my patients who come to see me. I listen intently to what they tell me, so that I can fully understand how to best support them throughout their journey.
“I’m passionate about working with women to help them increase their confidence, find their voice, and embrace their authentic self. Women’s health is not just a job for me, it’s my life.”
