About the Provider

An established member of MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's medical staff, John N. Delahay, MD, has more than 40 years of experience in diagnosing and treating both children and adults with orthopedic conditions. While no longer performing surgery, he maintains an active practice dedicated to orthopedic outpatient care.

In addition to his clinical expertise, Dr. Delahay is a well-respected educator, author or co-author of numerous textbooks on orthopedic surgery, and a frequent presenter and lecturer on the topics.

Since 1995, he has held the title of Peter Cyrus and Rose Dignan Rizzo Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Pediatrics at Georgetown University School of Medicine. During that same time frame, he has also served as the school's Vice Chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Program Director, Orthopaedic Surgery Training.  In recognition of his many educational contributions, Dr. Delahay was inducted into the School's prestigious Magis Society of Master Teachers in 2008.
Dr. Delahay focuses on outpatient orthopedic services including:

  • Adult knee and back pain
Philosophy of Care
It is important to me to make sure my patients understand the problem, the treatment options and the long-term implications of each.  I also feel very strongly that children and adolescents be included in any discussion of their condition and treatment. Their concerns are often quite different than their parents' and it's important to address them.
