Sy Sarkar, MD, FACP, FCCP, DAABIP is the Director of Interventional Pulmonology at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center. He is board certified in interventional pulmonology, critical care medicine and pulmonary medicine and has written more than 40 peer-reviewed scientific articles and abstracts on topics related to these areas of expertise. He specializes in minimally invasive procedures related to diagnosis and treatment of diseases related to the lung, airways and pleura. Dr Sarkar has been the principal investigator or sub investigator on numerous studies relating to the safety and efficacy of new devices and technology in interventional pulmonology. He was recently recognized by the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST) as a 2019 Distinguished CHEST Educator and the first in the state to implant a new FDA-approved lung valve in a patient with severe emphysema.
